Baked Bare Beans

So good, this savory side dish will satisfy everyone at your next cookout or party.

Marinate: at least 4 hours in the refrigerator or overnight
Yield: Approximately 8-12 servings, depending on size

Your guests will be amazed by these traditional baked beans that are sweet and savory. This dish will become the star of the side-dish show at your next backyard cookout or family dinner. They take a little time to cook and require your attention to stir but the end result it well worth the labor. Enjoy these with hamburgers, hot dogs or a nice pork roast. Make enough for leftovers because they are even better the next day but you’ll rarely have leftovers because your guests will come back for seconds and thirds.

Ingredients

4 10-oz Navy Bare Beans
1/2 cup maple syrup
4 Tbs molasses
4 Tbs brown sugar
1/2 cup ketchup
2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1/4 tsp chili powder
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1 small, chopped onion
1 lb cooked, chopped bacon

Instructions

Cook the bacon then chop and mix with beans and chopped onions. Place in a casserole dish. In a small bowl whisk together all remaining ingredients then pour over the beans, bacon and onion mixture, stirring gently until fully incorporated. Store with a lid in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours or overnight. At least 3 hours before you want to eat preheat your oven to 325 degrees. Bake with the lid on for at least 2 hours until hot and bubbly. Gently stir every 30 minutes to keep beans moist and the flavor throughout.
